Bharatiya Janata Party leader Agnimitra Paul has launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, highlighting what she perceives as deteriorating law and order in the state. Her remarks come in the wake of a shocking incident where a minor girl was allegedly molested by an ambulance driver in South 24 Parganas, an event Paul has branded as indicative of a "criminally run government."
Addressing the media, Paul elaborated on the incident, stating that the 14-year-old snakebite victim was admitted to a primary health care center, where an ambulance driver molested her in her hospital bed. She emphasized the presence of police officers, mandated by the Supreme Court, questioning their awareness and involvement in the matter. Paul accused the police of failing to record the victim's complaint accurately, citing a lack of detail that made the case fall short of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) standards.
Further criticism was directed at the Dhola police station for not documenting the incident adequately, referencing its controversial history with a recent fatality involving a Muslim boy. Paul accused the Banerjee government of being run by criminals, alleging that such individuals are integral to the state's electoral mechanisms and that the administration shields them. Additionally, Paul took issue with Mamata Banerjee's 'Maa Mati Manush' campaign, proposing it was anti-woman. She revealed BJP's intention to pursue the matter in the High Court. This controversy arrives following nationwide outrage over the catastrophic RG Kar case involving the brutal murder of a trainee doctor, an event that incited widespread protests and calls for Banerjee's resignation.
