Ramesh Tawadkar, Speaker of the Goa legislative assembly, threatened on Tuesday to resign from his post, citing persistent disrespect from members of the ruling party.
In a press conference held in Margao, South Goa, Tawadkar pointed fingers at certain ministers in Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's cabinet for making statements against him. He stressed the need for other members to uphold the sanctity of the speaker's position.
Tawadkar, who represents the Canacona constituency as a BJP MLA, has previously raised concerns with CM Pramod Sawant about ministers ignoring his calls. His recent statement follows a tribal convention led by state minister Govind Gaude, during which tensions from past criticisms and corruption allegations resurfaced.
