The campaigning for the bypoll to Raipur City South assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh ended on Monday evening. Leaders from both BJP and the opposition Congress made dedicated attempts to win over voters ahead of the crucial vote.
In what is shaping up as a direct face-off, BJP candidate Sunil Kumar Soni, a former Lok Sabha MP and Raipur Mayor, is contesting against Congress nominee Akash Sharma, the youthful state president of the party's youth wing. Voting will happen on November 13 for this prestigious seat.
The seat's vacancy resulted after BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal, its former sitting MLA, took up a Lok Sabha position earlier this year. Election officials have confirmed that polling will be conducted across 253 booths with security in place, comprising five companies of personnel. The constituency hosts a total of 2,71,169 voters, and the outcome will be revealed on November 23.
