In a vehement critique, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh of failing to curb the violence that erupted in Bahraich, alleging police inaction. The violence, which occurred during the Durga idol immersion procession, left one person dead amid accusations of partisan handling.
Hasan expressed dismay at what he termed as 'riot politics', arguing that the authorities, under the guise of maintaining order, allowed the situation to escalate. He claimed that the violence led to the destruction of property, with police allegedly turning a blind eye to the chaos.
The situation intensified with the Public Works Department's demolition notice for Abdul Hameed, accused in the violence. A petition challenging these demolition actions has reached the Supreme Court, with petitioners seeking to stave off action against properties allegedly linked to the violence in Bahraich.
