Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil announced Sunday that his organization, Maratha Kranti Morcha, will field candidates in select constituencies for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The community is willing to back any aspiring candidate who commits in writing to support their demands, he stated.
Jarange emphasized that their agitation would persist regardless of election outcomes. "Our movement will not stop; promises must be kept," he urged supporters at a rally in Jalna district's Antarvali village.
While personally disinterested in entering politics, Jarange stressed the importance of community consensus, avoiding division over political strategies. The Maratha reservation campaign, a year-long effort, seeks Maratha inclusion in the OBC category, clashing with legal limits on the quota ceiling.
