Former Union minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday asserted that his party has successfully freed Jammu and Kashmir from the grip of terrorism, ensuring peace, prosperity, and development in the region.
Speaking to reporters, Thakur said, "In Jammu and Kashmir, BJP means 'rahat' (comfort) and NC-Congress means 'aafat' (trouble). The NC-Congress alliance can only bring destruction and miseries for the people of the Union Territory."
Earlier in the day, Thakur accompanied BJP's Jammu North candidate Sham Lal Sharma and Jammu West nominee Arvind Gupta to file their nomination papers for the third phase of the assembly elections slated for October 1. The event saw a large gathering of BJP workers chanting slogans in support of the party and its candidates.
Thakur alleged that whenever the National Conference (NC) and Congress have united, they have invited destruction and miseries for the people. "More than 45,000 people have lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir due to NC and Congress. The country suffered a lot for 70 years due to blunders committed by (Pandit Jawahar Lal) Nehru," he said.
He further highlighted that the Modi-led government abrogated Article 370 to pave the way for peace and development in J&K. Thakur dismissed the NC-Congress call to bring back Article 370, stating it is now history and will never return.
Alleging that the NC-Congress alliance aims to push J&K back into terrorism, Thakur emphasized that "the people will teach them a lesson in these elections" and accused the alliance of engaging in divisive politics that spreads hatred.
