Uttarakhand Gears Up for 2024-25 Municipal Elections with 6,496 Nominations
The State Election Commission of Uttarakhand has received 6,496 nominations for the upcoming 2024-25 Municipal Local Body Elections. Candidates have submitted nominations for various positions, including City Heads and Councillors in Municipal Corporations, Chairpersons and Members in Municipal Palika Parishads, amid preparations for elections scheduled in January 2025.

The State Election Commission of Uttarakhand announced on Tuesday that a total of 6,496 nominations were submitted for the upcoming 2024-25 Municipal Local Body Elections. The deadline for nominations concluded on Monday, following the submission period's commencement on December 27.
The Commission's data reveals 103 nominations for City Head positions in Municipal Corporations and 2,325 for Councillor roles. Furthermore, 284 individuals are vying for Chairperson positions in Municipal Palika Parishads, with 1,922 aiming for Member roles in these bodies.
Nagar Panchayats have seen 295 nominations for chairmanships and 1,567 for membership positions. In aggregate, there are 682 nominations for City Head or Chairman roles and 5,814 for Councillor or Member positions. Candidates have the option to withdraw their nominations by January 2 prior to the elections.
The Election Commission declared the 2024-25 Municipal Local Body Election dates on December 23, with polling set for January 23, 2025. Results will be counted on January 25, 2025, covering 11 Municipal Corporations, 43 Municipal Councils, and 46 Nagar Panchayats across Uttarakhand.
