In a landmark case, an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan sentenced former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khalid Khurshid Khan, to 34 years imprisonment on charges of sedition and terrorism. The court found Khan guilty of threatening regional security agencies during a protest in July 2024.

The prosecution argued successfully that Khan's speech incited violence against the state and sensitive institutions. Despite Khan's absence from the trial, the court emphasized the gravity of the charges and underscored the threat posed by the former chief minister's actions.

In addition to his sentence, Khan faces a Rs 600,000 fine, with the court ordering his arrest. His party, PTI Gilgit-Baltistan, rejected the verdict and announced ongoing resistance against what they termed oppression.
