The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday expelled its Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar for alleged 'anti-party activities.' The decision came shortly after Kumar submitted his resignation from the Upper House of Parliament.
Kumar officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, in the presence of prominent leaders including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The BJD accused Kumar of betraying the party that facilitated his entrance to the Rajya Sabha.
Kumar cited rampant corruption and developmental neglect in his native Kalahandi as reasons for his departure. His resignation and subsequent expulsion have reduced BJD's representation in the Rajya Sabha to seven members, down from nine.
