Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday the formation of a government efficiency commission to audit the entire federal government, a concept proposed by billionaire Elon Musk, who is slated to lead the initiative.
This new commission marks a notable alliance between Trump and Musk, the latter being the spearhead of companies such as Tesla and SpaceX. Musk has increasingly voiced support for Trump's presidential ambitions.
Addressing the Economic Club of New York, Trump claimed that taxpayer losses due to fraud and improper payments reached hundreds of billions of dollars in 2022 alone. The commission, he asserted, would recommend significant reforms to eliminate such financial mismanagement, projecting savings in the trillions. Additionally, Trump committed to cutting ten existing government regulations for every new one introduced, should he be elected in the upcoming November elections.
In response, Musk expressed willingness to serve, stating on X, the social media platform he owns, "I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. No pay, no title, no recognition is needed."
