An audit report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has highlighted the dire conditions of tea garden workers in Assam, describing their wages as 'meagre' and citing several shortcomings in the implementation of labour laws.
The performance audit revealed that the state government's intervention under the Minimum Wage Act was 'insufficient' and inadequate to bring any substantial change in the lives of the workers.
The CAG report pointed out significant issues, including low income, lack of education, and wage disparities among workers in different regions, which have collectively hindered their overall development.
