Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called for a nationwide strike on Sunday, aiming to shut down the country's economy to pressure the government into negotiating the release of remaining hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Lapid, a former prime minister, urged all Israelis to participate in a significant protest in Tel Aviv. He also appealed to the country's main labor union, businesses, and municipalities to join the strike.

The call came after Israel recovered the bodies of six more hostages held in Gaza.
