Janata Dal (United) spokesperson K C Tyagi, recognized for his outspoken views, has stepped down, the regional party announced on Sunday.
The JD(U) stated that its president, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson.
While the resignation was attributed to personal reasons, it is widely believed that Tyagi's frequent comments on the central government's policies were seen as problematic for JD(U)-BJP relations.
Sources indicate that Tyagi's remarks on the Uniform Civil Code, Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and the government's stance on Palestine had not sat well with many within his own party and had embarrassed the BJP.
With senior JD(U) leaders like Lalan Singh and Sanjay Jha based in Delhi, party sources suggest that the duo should be allowed to manage ties with the BJP without Tyagi's frequent public interjections.
The BJP has been reaching out to allies in a bid to maintain cohesion and harmony within the ruling National Democratic Alliance amidst reports of internal differences.
