Former US National Security Advisor Lt Gen (retd) H R McMaster has unveiled allegations of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) being complicit with terrorist groups. During his tenure under President Trump, McMaster faced resistance from key US departments in halting security aid to Islamabad.
Trump had directed to stop all aid to Pakistan until it ceased supporting terrorists. Nevertheless, McMaster's book 'At War with Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House' reveals that then Defense Secretary Jim Mattis planned to deliver a military aid package worth over USD 150 million. McMaster intervened, stopping the aid.
Mattis reluctantly halted the shipment following McMaster's insistence, but other aid continued, leading Trump to denounce the aid on Twitter. McMaster noted that any aid suspension was crucial to Trump's South Asia strategy, despite widespread criticism.
