Former US President and Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, calling him a "fantastic man." Trump confirmed that he would be meeting Modi next week during Modi's visit to the US.
"He (Modi) happens to be coming to meet me next week, and Modi, he's fantastic. I mean, fantastic man. A lot of these leaders are fantastic," Trump said ahead of Modi's visit. Trump also emphasized the sharpness of these global leaders and discussed his strategy on reciprocal trade tariffs.
Trump explained his plan for reciprocal trade policies, stating that his administration would impose the same tariffs on other countries as they do on the US. "We're going to call it the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act," he said, highlighting that this approach aims to establish free trade or generate significant revenue.
Prime Minister Modi's US visit is scheduled from September 21 to 23, during which he will attend the annual Quad Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Delaware. Modi will also address the 'Summit of the Future' at the United Nations General Assembly in New York and meet the Indian community on September 22.
Modi and Trump last met in February 2020, during Trump's visit to India, which included the 'Namaste Trump' event and the opening of the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
In 2019, during Modi's visit to the US, he participated in the "Howdy, Modi!" rally in Texas.
