Venezuelan Journalist Released Amidst Controversial Election Fallout
Carmela Longo, a well-known Venezuelan journalist, was arrested and later released over the weekend. She faces terrorism charges linked to the country's disputed presidential election. Longo cannot leave Venezuela, write about her case, and must appear periodically before authorities. At least eight other reporters have also been detained.

Carmela Longo, a prominent Venezuelan entertainment journalist, was detained over the weekend and subsequently released, according to a media union. Longo faces terrorism and incitement charges amid unrest following the disputed July 28 presidential election.
Arrested after a raid on her home, Longo was charged during a virtual hearing on Monday. She has been forbidden from leaving the country or writing about her case. Longo will need to appear regularly before authorities. Her teenage son was also briefly detained.
Venezuela's electoral council declared President Nicolas Maduro as the winner of the election, despite the opposition's claims of victory. Both the Ministry of Information and the Attorney General's Office have not commented on the matter. The union reports that eight other journalists have also been detained.
