In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections, JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday designated legislative council member Ravindra Prasad Singh as the party's senior vice president for the state.
The announcement was made by JD(U)'s national general secretary Afaq Ahmed Khan, who confirmed that Singh's appointment was greenlit by Kumar. The decision is seen as a maneuver to bolster the party's grassroots support, especially within the influential Kurmi OBC group, which includes Kumar.
Ravindra Prasad Singh, previously a national secretary, was appointed to a legislative council seat in 2022, signaling JD(U)'s commitment to promoting grassroots workers. This latest appointment comes amid JD(U)'s efforts to recover from its poor performance in the 2020 assembly polls and to build on its recent success in the Lok Sabha elections.
