Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday criticized the Congress for forming an alliance with the National Conference (NC) before the three-phase Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls beginning on September 18.
Addressing reporters, Singh accused the Congress of compromising national unity and security to satisfy its quest for power, questioning the party's motives in partnering with the NC.
'The Congress, risking the nation's unity and security for power, has once again revealed its ulterior motive by allying with Farooq Abdullah's NC ahead of the J&K polls,' Singh remarked.
The National Conference on Thursday declared a pre-poll alliance with the Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, first since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The 90-seat assembly elections will occur in three phases - September 18, September 25, and October 1, with vote counting slated for October 4.
