In a pivotal meeting held at its New Delhi headquarters, the Congress Party finalized candidates for the remaining seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, followed the earlier announcement of nine candidates on August 27.

Key leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary KC Venugopal, were present at the meeting. Congress leader TS Singh Deo informed that the party discussed 29 assembly seats and is soon to release the list of candidates. Ambika Soni added that the party has decided on all but three constituencies, with the second list to be published shortly.

According to the initial list, prominent leaders such as Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Vikar Rasool Wani will contest from Dooru and Banihal, respectively. The National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance will see NC contesting 51 seats and Congress 32, with both parties facing off in five constituencies. Endorsed by the Samajwadi Party (SP), this election is significant as it's the first since the abrogation of Article 370.
