Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decisive action led to the historic abrogation of Article 370, an event which substantially diminished terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the unveiling of the book 'J&K and Ladakh Through the Ages', Shah emphasized that Kashmir is, and has always been, an integral part of India.
Modi's administration repealed Article 370 in August 2019, a move Shah credits with reuniting Kashmir with the rest of the nation. He argued that Articles 370 and 35A had previously fostered separatism, falsely suggesting a temporary link between Kashmir and India. Since their abrogation, terrorism has reduced by 70%, Shah noted, adding that the government has allocated Rs 80,000 crore to the region's development.
Shah insisted that the historical ties of culture, trade, and spirituality, stretching back 10,000 years, underscore Kashmir's inseparable role in India's narrative. The Union Minister condemned historical distortions catering to past rulers and called for a fact-based presentation of India's heritage. He praised Modi's efforts in revitalizing Kashmiri languages, showing sensitivity towards the region's linguistic diversity.
