BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Tuesday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his visit to Vietnam during a period of national mourning, following the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Poonawalla accused Gandhi of prioritizing a vacation over paying respects, calling him the 'Leader of Partying.'
Poonawalla highlighted that Gandhi's actions were especially disrespectful given his previous public admiration for Dr. Singh, whom he had described as a 'father figure.' Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore defended Gandhi, dismissing BJP's criticisms as diversionary tactics.
Tagore questioned the BJP's motives, citing the government's treatment of Dr. Singh's family. Shehzad Poonawalla further alleged that the absence of the Gandhi family during Dr. Singh's 'asthi visarjan' was due to the lack of media presence. Dr. Singh was cremated with state honors in Delhi, attended by his family and government officials.
