Congress has announced that farmers who lost their lives during protests against the three now-repealed farm laws will be granted martyr status if the party wins the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. This pledge was made by party general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday.

Surjewala vehemently criticized the BJP-led NDA government for withdrawing the controversial farm laws under duress and failing to legally guarantee Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops. 'As many as 750 farmers died during the agitation at the Delhi border. Within 30 days of assuming charge, all 750 farmers will be given martyr status and their next of kin a job,' he declared at a public gathering in Kaithal district.

The Congress leader also hit out at the BJP government for not addressing the unemployment crisis, promising transparent job allocations and filling nearly two lakh vacant government positions if elected. 'In addition to government jobs, we will create employment avenues in the private sector,' Surjewala added.
