BJP activists stormed Nandigram police station in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district on Friday during a gherao programme. This was part of a protest against the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at a Kolkata state-run hospital.
BJP supporters also staged gherao agitations at police stations in Chinsurah, Siuri, Midnapore, and Bankura. More than 100 BJP supporters breached barricades at Nandigram police station, engaging in scuffles with police officers who failed to contain them.
The protestors, including several women, chanted slogans inside the police station before leaving the premises.
