In a disturbing incident in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, a mob took to vandalizing the residence of a panchayat member accused of molesting a 10-year-old girl. The local police, upon getting wind of such disorder, quickly made an arrest and heightened security.
The molestation allegedly took place on Saturday evening. The victim recounted her traumatic experience to her family, resulting in the villagers confronting the accused. With tensions rising, the mob went on to destroy his house and a shop owned by his brother. Law enforcement had to deploy tear gas to disperse the crowd.
''Why can't there be a safe environment for every girl, every woman?'' the girl's father poignantly questioned in a call for stringent measures against gender-based violence. His heartfelt plea underlined an urgent demand for justice and safety from the local administration.
