Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay unveiled the flag of his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), on Thursday, marking a significant milestone for the new outfit. The event took place at TVK's headquarters in Panaiyur.
The flag, featuring maroon and yellow stripes with two fighting tuskers around a Vaagai flower, has sparked controversy. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) claims the elephant image on the flag violates Election Commission rules. "The elephant is the election symbol assigned to the BSP in 1993," said BSP Tamil Nadu unit president P Anandan.
Despite the objections, TVK is gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections. Vijay emphasized the party's commitment to social equality and vowed to work for the growth of Tamil Nadu. "This is not just a party flag; it's a flag of victory for Tamil Nadu's future generations," he declared.
