Union Minister George Kurian on Wednesday filed his nomination papers to contest as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Madhya Pradesh. The seat was vacated after Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected to the Lok Sabha.
Arriving in Bhopal on Wednesday morning, Kurian was received by state BJP chief V D Sharma. Subsequently, he met with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at his official residence before submitting his nomination at the state assembly complex. The filing was attended by CM Yadav, Deputy Chief Ministers Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda, and BJP spokesman Ashish Agrawal.
The Rajya Sabha by-election, scheduled for September 3, will fill 12 vacant seats across nine states. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP holds a significant majority in the 230-member assembly, making Kurian's victory highly probable if contested by the opposition.
