On Monday, two new murder cases were lodged against Bangladesh's ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-ministers of her cabinet regarding the deaths of two individuals during recent quota reform protests.
These cases are the latest in a series of legal actions against the 76-year-old former premier, who vacated her position and fled to India on August 5 amid massive student protests against a controversial quota system in government employment.
The cases were filed for the killings of Liton Hasan Lalu alias Hasan and Tarik Hossain in the capital's Mirpur and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas, respectively. Family members of the deceased implicated Hasina and other former high-ranking officials in their legal complaints. So far, 15 cases have been filed against Hasina since her ouster.
