The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has initiated legal proceedings against actress Kangana Ranaut and the producers of the film 'Emergency'. Gurcharan Singh Grewal, General Secretary of SGPC, stated that their objections are not personally targeted at Ranaut but are based on broader concerns for harmony in the country.
Grewal explained that the SGPC had previously communicated with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Censor Board, stressing their stance against the film. He mentioned that some committee members have even approached the High Court to file a writ petition. The committee believes the censoring of the film will be officially confirmed on September 6.
Accusations against Ranaut include using film promotion tactics by claiming threats. Grewal welcomed the Censor Board's decision to halt the film's screening, citing serious national and religious concerns. Additionally, protests in Bathinda saw effigies of Ranaut being burnt. A petition for a criminal case against Ranaut for allegedly distorting historical facts and offending Sikh religious sentiments has also been filed in Chandigarh.
