Partners in Qatar have assured Washington of their commitment to secure Hamas representation at Gaza ceasefire talks set for this week, said State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel on Tuesday. The U.S. remains optimistic about the progress of these discussions.
However, Hamas is demanding a concrete plan to implement the proposal made by U.S. President Joe Biden in May, rather than engage in continuous talks. An official from Hamas refuted a CNN report suggesting the group would attend the talks on Thursday.
The insistence on a practical approach underscores the importance of tangible commitments amid the ongoing conflict.
