Former Jharkhand Minister Saryu Roy has officially joined the JD(U), as confirmed by the party's national working president, Sanjay Kumar Jha, on Sunday.

Jha shared this significant political development on X, highlighting that Roy, an independent MLA from Jamshedpur East, joined the party in the presence of senior JD(U) leaders and ministers Shrawan Kumar and Ashok Choudhary, who oversees the party's activities in Jharkhand.

This move follows a recent meeting between Roy and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where Roy hinted at a potential alignment with JD(U) ahead of the Jharkhand assembly elections later this year. Roy previously parted ways with the BJP before the 2019 assembly elections, subsequently achieving a notable victory over the then CM Raghubar Das, in whose cabinet he had served. He is also renowned for his role in exposing the fodder scam that shook the government of undivided Bihar in the 1990s, led by RJD president Lalu Prasad, who was later convicted.

JD(U) leaders have highlighted Roy's close personal relationship with Nitish Kumar, emphasizing that Roy's addition will strengthen the party's base in Jharkhand. Jha expressed confidence in Roy's capability to bolster the JD(U)'s position as the party gears up for the upcoming state elections.
