BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan on Sunday criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal for its alleged failure to ensure women's safety, declaring, "it will pay the price for it."
Srinivasan met with party women wing leaders ahead of the upcoming three-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir beginning September 18. She stated that the alleged rape and murder of a doctor have shaken society, prompting thousands of women to march for justice.
Addressing reporters, Srinivasan termed the incident involving the postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9 as highly unfortunate, criticizing the state government's approach to women's safety. She pointed out that similar incidents have been recurring since 2011.
The BJP women's wing chief emphasized their role in advocating for victims and justice. She recounted her participation in a silent march in Kolkata post the recent incident, noting the unusual scale of non-political women joining the protest against the government.
Srinivasan warned that the women protesters are demanding justice for the victim, though the Mamata Banerjee government appears insensitive to the issue, resulting in potential political repercussions.
