The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Election Committee convened a crucial meeting on Sunday at the party's headquarters in Delhi. Present were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
In the 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP secured 28 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 25 seats. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress won 15 and 12 seats respectively. The PDP-BJP coalition government, led by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, collapsed in 2018 after BJP withdrew support post Sayeed's demise.
The Election Commission of India has announced that polling in Jammu and Kashmir will occur in three phases: September 18, 25, and October 1. Vote counting is set for October 4. These elections are significant as they are the first since the revocation of Article 370.
