The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned on Wednesday following protests by Congress members against remarks made by BJP MP Tejaswi Surya. Surya criticized Rahul Gandhi for failing to address landslide issues in Wayanad, his constituency.
Participating in a calling attention motion on the loss of lives and property due to landslides and floods, Surya alleged that illegal encroachments in Wayanad remained due to pressure from religious organizations, despite recommendations from Kerala's disaster management body.
Surya's comments led to congressional protests, prompting Speaker Om Birla to suspend the session until 4 pm. The motion was part of a discussion on the Demands for Grants for the railway ministry.
