West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, walked out of a NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi on July 27, alleging that her microphone was switched off just five minutes into her speech. This incident has sparked indignation within the West Bengal Assembly.
Minister Manas Bhunia moved a special notice in the Assembly on Monday, decrying the treatment of Banerjee as a breach of cooperative federalism. TMC legislators expressed their dismay, with Chandrima Bhattacharya asserting that the CM's humiliation was a slight against the entire state.
In contrast, BJP legislators argued that Banerjee's statements about the meeting were not consistent with the official version from NITI Aayog and staged their own walkout demanding retraction of her statements. The Speaker of the House endorsed the discussion, calling the incident 'unfortunate.'
