In an effort to address the ongoing air pollution crisis in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the redeployment of Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) for a four-month period starting November 1, 2024.
This marks a turnaround from last year's decision to terminate the volunteers' services. Saxena has also urged the creation of a dedicated scheme for bus marshals, emphasizing the need for a well-defined plan outlining their roles and service conditions.
The lieutenant governor directed immediate steps for creating official posts and ensuring budget provisions, pushing for a long-term solution. The AAP government has pledged budgetary support and stated that only the lieutenant governor can develop this scheme.
