Ride-hailing giant Uber announced a slew of new features on Thursday, designed to improve safety and fairness for its over one million drivers in India. These updates include SOS integration, helmet selfies, and a women rider preference feature for female drivers.
Aligning with the government's efforts to support gig workers, Uber has committed to promoting registrations on the e-Shram portal by offering cash incentives to the first 10,000 drivers who enroll. The portal serves as a comprehensive database for gig and unorganized workers, supporting their social security.
Among the enhancements are also a revamped earnings hub, instant payments, and a deactivation review center, ensuring transparency and convenience for drivers. Uber President, Prabhjeet Singh emphasized the goal of empowering drivers with these changes.
