The Union Home Secretary, Govind Mohan, has announced the launch of a significant disaster preparedness initiative, the Yuva Apada Mitra Scheme, during the National Disaster Management Authority's 20th formation day.
This ambitious scheme aims to equip 2.37 lakh young volunteers from organizations like NCC and NSS to act as first responders in 315 districts across 28 states.
With an estimated budget of Rs 469.53 crore, the scheme also plans to prepare 1,300 trainers as part of expanding the existing Aapda Mitra Scheme. Mohan emphasized the need for Glacier Lake Outburst Flood projects in the Himalayan and Northeastern regions.
