Police in Nashik have launched a major crackdown ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, taking action against 17,000 individuals. The crackdown has resulted in the seizure of cash, liquor, and arms valued at Rs 49 crore, an official reported on Sunday.

Preventive measures, including those under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) and Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), have been executed since the model code of conduct took effect on October 15. Special Inspector General Dattatray Karale confirmed these developments.

Apart from substantial seizures, which include Rs 6.5 crore in cash and Rs 34 crore in gold, the police also confiscated 52 firearms and 183 other weapons. With 84 platoons of the Central Reserve Police Force deployed for the upcoming November 20 elections, the Nashik police are collaborating with neighboring Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to maintain order and security.
