Diplomacy on the Frontier: Modi and Xi's High-Stakes BRICS Summit Meet
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Russia. This will be their first encounter since 2020 tensions. Recently, India and China resolved a military stand-off in Ladakh, potentially improving their political and business relations.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday during the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, according to India's foreign secretary. This marks their first meeting since bilateral relations soured in 2020 following a military clash along their disputed frontier.
Just before the summit, India and China reached an agreement on their longstanding border dispute in the Ladakh region, ending a four-year military stand-off. This development is expected to enhance the political and business relationship between the two Asian powerhouses.
The border pact involves coordinated military patrols to prevent future confrontations, following an agreed schedule. A senior Indian military officer provided details of the agreement to Reuters on Monday, indicating a cautious but hopeful step towards improved relations.
