The CPI(M) has announced its support for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's indefinite fast demanding Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh. The CPI(M) has voiced its support for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his team, who have been on an indefinite fast since Sunday. They are demanding Ladakh's inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Wangchuk's group began their protest at Ladakh Bhawan after not being granted an audience with senior government figures on October 4. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) urged government ministers to engage with Wangchuk and resolve the issue promptly.
The situation spotlights the Modi government's handling of dissent. The Left party claimed the BJP's 2019 promise of Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh hasn't been honored, leaving activists confined in Ladakh Bhawan. A delegation also met with Wangchuk to extend their support.
