The Delhi High Court is poised to hear a plea this Wednesday from climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and others. They aim to hold a protest in Delhi, challenging the police's ban on demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.
Filed by the Apex Body Leh, the plea follows a noteworthy protest march from Leh to Delhi initiated by Wangchuk and about 200 supporters. The march covered over 900 kilometers in 30 days to highlight concerns over Ladakh's ecological and cultural degradation.
The Delhi Police, on October 5, denied permission for a protest at Jantar Mantar, citing arbitrary reasons according to the plea. The activists, detained briefly at Delhi's border for demanding Ladakh's inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, claim their fundamental rights were infringed.
