The Delhi High Court has issued notices to student candidates allegedly responsible for defacing public property during the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections in September 2024. The court has called these candidates to appear on October 28 to explain their conduct in person.
Concerns were raised over the lack of action from Delhi University and the police regarding the rampant defacement and hooliganism during the elections. The court had previously paused the counting of votes until the public property was restored, reiterating its demand for cleanup to continue.
Justice officials stressed to the university's vice-chancellor the need for remedial measures. Meanwhile, a suggested panel aims to evaluate damages caused to local authorities like MCD and DMRC, with reports due to the court by October 28.
