The Delhi High Court issued a directive to candidates of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, commanding them to clean defaced campus structures to proceed with vote counting. This comes after the court had earlier paused the electoral process due to instances of vandalism.
In a stern message aimed at maintaining campus decorum, a bench comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela emphasized the importance of this clean-up as a prerequisite for counting votes. The court clarified that its intention was not to disrupt elections but to signal zero tolerance for property defacement.
The legal intervention followed a petition by Prashant Manchanda, advocating action against vandalism. The court granted time for compliance, scheduling a follow-up on October 21, reinforcing its stance that public property must be respected during elections.
