The Calcutta High Court on Monday sanctioned a rally organized by the Joint Platform of Doctors for October 1, in protest against the rape-murder of a trainee medic at RG Kar hospital.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj permitted the event, setting it to proceed from 5 pm to 8 pm from College Square to Rabindra Sadan, traversing notable thoroughfares in Kolkata.

Despite police recommendations to limit participants and shorten the route, the court allowed the rally without such restrictions, directing authorities to ensure comprehensive security measures and urging organizers to manage their supporters effectively.
