The officer-in-charge of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, was escorted to the special Crime Branch in Kolkata by the CBI after undergoing a medical examination at BR Singh Hospital. Mondal, alongside Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, was apprehended by the CBI concerning the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

In parallel, junior doctors are persisting in their protest for the fifth consecutive night at Swasthya Bhawan, located in Kolkata's Salt Lake area. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the site earlier, assuring the demonstrators that their demands would be addressed and that appropriate actions would be taken against those culpable.

Addressing the doctors, Banerjee conveyed her distress over their predicament, emphasizing that she has lost sleep due to their protest amidst the rain. 'I have been a student leader myself and have faced many struggles, so I empathize with your position. My concern is not about my role but about resolving your issues. I promise to review your demands and consult senior officials. The guilty will be punished. The state government will not take any action against you,' she affirmed.

She further implored the doctors to resume their duties, stating, 'I request you to return to work. Initiatives related to the development, infrastructure, and security of the hospital have already commenced and will persist.' The second-year postgraduate medical student was raped and murdered on August 9 inside RG Kar Medical College's seminar hall.
