Track maintainers' unions have expressed outrage over the dismissal of Ram Aasne, a worker who had alerted his senior officer about a track defect prior to the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in July near Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
North-Eastern Railway dismissed Aasne on September 13, accusing him of leaking the recording of his conversation with his senior on social media, a violation of the Railways' conduct rules.
Four people were killed, and 31 were injured when eight coaches of the train derailed between the Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations on July 18. The unions assert Aasne's innocence and criticize the dismissal process as flawed and discriminatory.
