Junior doctors in Kolkata have maintained their protest at Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake for the fifth consecutive night. Dr. Aqeeb, a prominent figure in the movement, declared the protests will persist until justice prevails.
"Today, Sandip Ghosh has been arrested, validating our demands," said Dr. Aqeeb, addressing the protestors. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, has been taken into custody alongside Abhijit Mondal, Tala police station's officer-in-charge, in connection with the rape and murder of Abhaya, a trainee doctor.
The doctor's delegation, which included Dr. Aqeeb, met with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but left without resolution. Banerjee cited ongoing Supreme Court proceedings as a reason for refusing their request for live-streaming the meeting. She assured that a recording would be provided, urging the doctors to return for further dialogue.
