Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anirban Ganguly on Wednesday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation. Ganguly dismissed her demand as laughable and suggested that Banerjee might be losing her mental balance due to pressure.
On Tuesday, Banerjee had called for the resignations of PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the chief ministers of all states where recent incidents of rape and sexual abuse were reported. Commenting on the anti-rape bill passed in the West Bengal Assembly, Ganguly said it was laughable that Banerjee, whose resignation the entire state is demanding, called for the resignation of top leaders. He also criticized Banerjee's demand for fast-track courts to ensure speedy justice in rape cases after the rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata.
Ganguly highlighted that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had written a letter in 2021 regarding the establishment of special fast-track courts and POCSO courts, but Banerjee did not respond. Ganguly remarked that the Centre had made provisions for 123 such courts across West Bengal, but Banerjee showed no action.
