A five-year-old girl tragically lost her life and three of her family members sustained injuries when a chunk of ceiling plaster collapsed in their flat at a 30-year-old building in Thane. The incident occurred at around 8 am in their ground-floor home at the 6-storey Jeevan Baug building in the Mumbra area, according to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation. The family was in their kitchen when the accident happened, Tadvi reported.

Victims Uneja Sheikh (5), Umar Sheikh (23), Muskan Sheikh (21), and one-year-old Izan Sheikh were rushed to a nearby hospital immediately after the collapse. Tragically, doctors declared Uneja dead on arrival, while the other injured family members are currently receiving medical treatment.

The Jeevan Baug building, which houses 20 apartments and six shops, had previously been classified as a dangerous building (C2B category) and was issued a notice for repairs. In the wake of this tragic accident, the building has been evacuated and sealed, as confirmed by officials.
