Tension escalated in Dharavi Saturday morning as hundreds of residents blocked a road in protest against the Mumbai civic body's plan to demolish an allegedly illegal portion of a mosque.
Civic officials were initially stopped from entering the area of the mosque, resulting in residents assembling outside the Dharavi police station and squatting on the road.
In response to the growing tension, mosque trustees engaged in talks with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, securing four to five days to remove the disputed portion. Additional police were deployed to ensure no untoward incidents occurred.
